Voice Control at the Danish Railway Museeum in operation
|
The Danish Railway Museum has entered an agreement with GamesOnTrack A/S to deliver voice control for a railway showcase at the museum. The system is now permanently in operation. The idea behind the agreement is to give visitors an interactive experience with the model railway layouts, so that the visitors activate trains, set speed, sound and light and actually run the entire layout themselves – using voice control.
Curator Jørgen Larsen says about the project: "We want both children and adults to have an experience. Trains just running with the same speed on a layout are not particularly exciting and with voice control we are free from control buttons and handles breaking all the time. And it is rather cool to able to activate movements, sounds and lights with the voice. Being able to switch between three language versions is also important to us, because this allows us to offer our English and German customers a good experience as well. This is an exciting new attraction which we expect to put into operation for the autumn holidays. We believe that this is the start of an entirely new experience with our model railway exhibition!"
The technical solution will be described in an article later on, because apart from voice control, great importance has been attached to simplicity in this solution. Operation must be easy. The experiences from the Danish ”Father’s Day” showed us that children down to the age of 7 can take part. At the same time the solution must be capable of starting and shutting down automatically and entering into hibernate-mode when there is no activity.
